The Beginning
The spark that ignited Salomon Schwarz into the International Gem Trade was lit during a chance encounter in the vibrant gem markets of Yangon, Myanmar. In 2016, Salomon, then a curious traveller with a fascination for geology and natural beauty, found himself amidst a dazzling array of coloured gemstones. The energy of the market, the history whispered by each stone, and the stories of the local traders kindled a deep passion within him.
Salomon’s curiosity led him further into the heart of Myanmar, to the renowned gemstone mines of Mogok, famously known as “The Valley of Rubies”. This remote, mist-shrouded region has been the source of some of the world’s most exquisite rubies and sapphires for centuries. Here, Salomon witnessed first-hand the arduous process of extracting rough gemstones from the earth. He observed the miners, their faces etched with determination and pride, working tirelessly to unearth these precious treasures.
The Inspiration
The visit to Mogok was a revelation. The raw beauty of the uncut stones, the meticulous craftsmanship required to reveal their true splendour, and the rich history embedded in each gem deeply moved Salomon. He saw beyond the mere sparkle of the stones; he saw the legacy of generations of miners, the intricate dance of light within each gem, and the potential to create something timeless and extraordinary.
Inspired by this experience, Salomon returned home with a newfound purpose. He envisioned a brand that would not only celebrate the inherent beauty of coloured gemstones but also honour the dedication and skill of the artisans who bring these gems to life. He aimed to offer not just jewellery, but pieces of art that would serve as both exquisite adornments and valuable investments.
Building the Dream
Back in his hometown in Zurich, Salomon began to lay the foundation for SalomonGems.com. He forged relationships with trusted suppliers and artisans, ensuring that every gemstone was sourced ethically and had been through rigorous laboratory testing with international recognised Gemmological laboratories. His commitment to quality and integrity quickly set his brand apart in the world of high-end Gemstones.
